Ampeg Adds a 4-Ohm Venture VB-212 for Single-Cab Rigs

Ampeg Venture VB-212 4 ohm

Ampeg has expanded its Venture cabinet series with the VB-212 4 ohm speaker cab. Similar to the 8 ohm version, the new VB-212 is fitted with a pair of custom-voiced 12-inch Lavoce neodymium woofers and a high-frequency driver. The main difference is the impedance, which allows it to “pump out maximum power output when paired with any Venture head in a single-cab setup.” The 4-ohm load allows Venture heads to deliver their full rated output through a single cabinet.

“Our Venture heads and PRO Series heads have different power ratings depending on whether they’re connected to a 4 ohm cab or an 8 ohm cab,” Ampeg’s Dino Monoxelos explains in a blog post. “The V12 puts out 1200 watts when connected to a 4 ohm load, but only puts out 600 watts when connected to an 8 ohm load. Basically, half the power. That’s because the greater the resistance (8 ohms is greater than 4 ohms), the harder the amp has to work, thus giving less power. Enter the VB-212 4 ohm… So now you, the player, can enjoy the full power of your Venture head without having to bring two cabinets to the gig.”

The Ampeg VB-212 weighs just 40 pounds and has a power-handling of 500 watts RMS and 1,000 watts Program power. It’s wrapped in carbon fiber-style Tolex with the modern Ampeg logo, and the company offers an optional PF grille assembly for a more vintage look. The rear panel has a pair of Neutrik speakON inputs and a three-position high-frequency attenuator switch to adjust the compression driver.

The Ampeg Venture VB-212 4 Ohm Bass Cabinet is available now for $1,199.
