Bass of the Week: Wahlbrink Kronos Black Ax 5-String

As part of Wahlbrink’s Art Line of basses, the Kronos is a distinct instrument. The bass’s unique body shape with its distinct bouts add form to its function while its visual aesthetic is upped by exotic woods and attention to detail. A great example of the model is the company’s Black Ax, a one-off creation with a dark theme.

The 5-string bass is based around an unbelievable 1-piece flame maple body with a dark finish, which is then complimented with an ebony neck and ebony fingerboard. Its hardware, including Hipshot tuners and an ETS bridge, follows suit with black finishes as well. Wahlbrink rounded the bass out with a pair of Häussel Bassbar pickups matched to a Noll TCM 2 preamp.

While the Black Ax is a custom creation, the Kronos can be built with lots of options. Check out the Wahlbrink website for more details.
