Weezer Releases Final “SZNZ” EP with “Winter”
Weezer’s four-part album project SZNZ has come to a close with its final installment, called SZNZ: Winter. When vocalist Rivers Cuomo spoke on the seasonally based EPs last year, he described Winter as featuring “lots of loss and despair and kind of quiet.”
The record starts on a tender note with fingerstyle guitar and string quartet on “I Want a Dog” before Scott Shriner’s bass kicks in to drive the groove. Check out the lyric video:
From there, the songs grow in orchestration, although the album was originally envisioned as a stripped-back acoustic work. Fans can hear hints of Weezer’s “White Album” in tracks like “Basketball” and “The One That Got Away,” while the songs “Iambic Pentameter” and “The Deep and Dreamless Sleep” harken back to Everything Will Be Alright in the End.
SZNZ: Winter is available now on CD and as a digital download (iTunes and Amazon MP3).
