Happy new year!
Brazillian cornetist Rob Mazurek has pulled together a sweet quintet, with Matthew Lux (Isotope 217, Iron and Wine) on bass, and John Abrams (Town and Country, Black Earth Ensemble) on acoustic bass. Their debut album, Sound Is, features 14 new Mazurek compositions, and is due out in 2009 on Delmark.
Bassist Ben Gibbard (AFI) has popped the question, and actress Zooey Deschanel (Yes Man) said yes. The couple have been dating for about a year, and became engaged just before Christmas.
Grasstowne (with Phil Leadbetter and Steve Gulley) has a new bass player in Travis Greer (Lonesome Drive, Michelle Nixon). Greer will be on vocals as well as upright bass. Greer will be replacing Jamey Booher, who is now playing with his brother in NewFound Road.
