Ampeg releases miniature SVT amp

Ampeg has released a miniature version of the SVT amplifier, known as the Micro-VR Head. It’s perfect for small venues and recording studios where the original version would be overkill.

With the classic Ampeg looks in a small case, it’s adorable, but at about $300, it’s no toy. The head has a true Ampeg preamp with 200 watts of power. “We’re the first to admit that the new Micro-VR rig is cute, but it shouldn’t be lost that this is a real Ampeg and a truly professional amplifier,” said Zane Williams, amplifier products manager for Ampeg. “It’s the result of input from our artists and Ampeg customers who’ve been asking for a modular, portable and usable live/recording system that fits into a lot spaces, is easy to move around and delivers our signature tone.”

The companion loudspeaker enclosure has two ten-inch Eminence speakers in a cabinet only two feet tall and a mere 30 pounds.

The amps are on their way to retailers now, but you can get your hands on one now at NAMM, booth 5676.
