Zander Zon: Epic Love

I spent a lot of time this weekend watching videos by Youtuber Zander Zon; sorry I hadn’t heard of him sooner.

It was hard to pick one video to feature, but here goes: “Epic Love” is an original composition by Zander, played on his Zon VB4 bass with D’Addario Piccolo strings.

Zander started on cello at a young age before switching to bass at age 17. Michael Manring’s “Selene” and “Music for Armchair Funambulists” showed him this form of music was even possible.

Here’s the best line of all: “As I am the world’s worst singer, I wanted to try to write a sort of love song on the bass – which proved extremely challenging!”

Enjoy…

  1. Zander is so excellent. He is probably my favourite youtuber of all (not including the pros such as Victor Wooten etc.)
Rarely do you see such ability to communicate emotion through the instrument without some kind of lyrics. It truly transcends his technique although that seems to be pretty good as well.
