Upcoming Dave Holland performances

Jazz bassist Dave Holland is currently performing with his Overtone Quartet featuring saxophonist Chris Potter, pianist Jason Moran and drummer Eric Harland. Throughout Holland’s four-and-a-half decade career he’s also played with Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock and Jack DeJonhette.

Holland says he came to the bass by circumstance, “I was in my first band when I was thirteen and it had three guitars and a drummer and a singer. And we decided we needed a bass player. And I volunteered. And as soon as I started, I got a bass guitar and I started playing, and I loved it right away.” His early jazz influences included Ray Brown and Ray Leroy Vinnegar.

The upcoming performance dates for the Dave Holland Overtone Quartet include:

October 4, 2009 at Bailey Hall – Cornell University in Ithaca, NY

October 8, 2009 at Williams Center – Layfayette University in Easton, PA
