Charlie HadenMissouri State University’s Bachelor of Music performance degree now includes a jazz studies program. To help kick off the program in a big way, bass legend Charlie Haden has agreed to join the faculty as the 2010-11 artist-in-residence.

“This comprehensive Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance degree will prepare young musicians for careers as professional performers, composers, and arrangers in the ever-growing jazz and commercial music areas,” said Randy Hamm, professor of music and the program director. “For those who desire to continue developing their skill and knowledge in the field, the program will prepare them for auditions into graduate school.”

The school is issuing a limited number of jazz studies scholarships, ranging from $100 to $1,000. For more, check out the school’s announcement page.
