Mingus Big Band Release New Album With CD Release Party

Mingus Big Band: Live at Jazz StandardThe Mingus Big Band will be celebrating the release of their new album, Live at Jazz Standard with a CD release concert. The concert will also take place at Jazz Standard in New York City, on April 19th.

The CD is released only three days before Charles Mingus’ 88th birthday, and was recorded on New Year’s Eve 2008/2009, which marked 50 years since the release of the bassist/composer’s prolific Mingus Ah Um and other works.

Along with bassist Boris Kozlov, the personnel for the album includes Randy Brecker, Kenny Rampton, Earl Gardner (trumpets), Wayne Escoffery, Abraham Burton (Tenor Sax), Vincent Herring (Alto Sax), Douglas Yates (Saxophones and flute), Lauren Sevian (Baritone Sax), Ku-Umba Frank Lacy, Conrad Herwig (Trombones), Earl Mcintyre (Bass Trombone and Tuba), David Kioski (Piano), and Jeff “Tain” Watts (drums).
