Summer Bass Event Roundup

There are plenty of bass events taking place this summer. Here’s a list of the ones hitting our radar so far.

NH Bass Fest 2010

NH Bass FestThe New Hampshire Bass Fest is a four day event including ensembles, master classes, labs, guest artists, concerts and luthier displays. The event takes place June 16-19, 2010 at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, NH.

Artists and faculty include Rob Gourlay, Michael Manring, Todd Johnson, Grant Stinnett, Jim Stinnett and more.

International Double Bass Solo Competition

The Bradetich Foundation has announced the International Double Bass Solo Competition will be held June 16-20, 2010.

The Competition consists of three public rounds:

First Round: All 21 competitors will perform for 25 minutes.

Second Round: Approximately 8 competitors will perform a 40 minute recital.

Final Round: Approximately 3 competitors will perform a full concerto with orchestra.

Master Classes will be given on Saturday, June 19 from 10:00am to 5:30pm by the double bass judges of the competition.

Virginia Bass Forum: Bryan Beller Clinic

The Virginia Bass Forum has announced a Bryan Beller Clinic on June 22, 2010 at 7pm. The event will be held at Forte Music in Fredericksburg, VA.

This is Beller’s second Bass Forum clinic, and he’ll cover soloing concepts for rock and how to get a great bass tone.

Bass Coalition Summer Workshop and Solo Competition

Bass CoalitionThe Bass Coalition is holding their first annual Summer Workshop, hosted at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia. The event takes place June 24-26, 2010.

The three day workshop is open to bassists age 12 and up. Faculty includes jazz bass legend Rufus Reid, classical virtuoso David Murray, renowned bass educator Inez Wyrick, and No Treble contributor Donovan Stokes.
