Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament Opens Skatepark

Jeff AmentPearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament has opened a skate park in his hometown of Big Sandy, Montana. Ament funded the $40,000 project so he could “give the kids around here something to do,” besides school sports.

The park is finished now, and Ament says he plans on buying some skateboards and gear to keep handy for kids who don’t have them. Once spring rolls around again, he will be inviting professional skaters to come perform shows.

Pearl Jam just came off touring the U.S. and Europe this year in support of their latest album, Backspacer. This month marks the band’s 20th anniversary, and to celebrate it the group has launched a Sirius XM radio station devoted to playing all their material, including live and unreleased performances.
