System of a Down Reunites for 2011 Tour Dates

System of a DownSystem of a Down has announced new tour dates, which will be the group’s first performances since August 2006. The shows will be scattered through Europe in June with more dates in the works.

An official statement from the band’s website explains “We have no master plan of sorts — we are playing these shows simply because we want to play together again as a band and for you, our amazing fans.”

According to a recent interview in Hustler, bassist Shavo Odadjian said the band would be back when they “have the hunger and the fire in our eyes that we did when we started System of a Down.”

Odadjian stirred controversy earlier this year with a tweet asking fans, “Are u guys ready for System?” The next day he clarified it was not a statement of reunion, but just a test for fan reaction. After Monday’s official announcement of tour dates, Shavo joked, “oh btw, You guys ready for SYSTEM? LOLOLOL.”
