WesFest 7 Concert and Scholarship Fundraiser Announced

Wes WehmillerThe annual WesFest concert and scholarship event, held in honor of bassist Wes Wehmiller, has been announced. This is the seventh year for the event, following Wehmiller’s passing in 2005.

The event is organized by Wehmiller’s friends and fellow Berklee alum, including Kira Small and bassist Bryan Beller, and is designed to be both a celebration of the bassist, as well as raising funds for a Berklee scholarship in his name.

The last six events have raised $90,000 for the scholarships, awarded to musicians continuing their studies at Berklee “who best exemplifies the excellence and grace Wes showed as a bassist and as a human being.”

The event will take place on Sunday, March 4th, 2012 at the Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood, California. Advanced tickets are $35 for two, $20 for one. Tickets at the door are $30 each.

The headliner will be the Aristocrats, featuring Beller on bass, with Guthrie Govan on guitar and Marco Minnemann on drums. Also performing are:

  • The Casualties of Jazz: a jazz organ trio that exclusively plays Black Sabbath tunes, featuring keyboardist Matt Rohde, bassist Chris Golden and drummer Jimmy Paxson
  • Danny Mo and the Exciters: featuring 2011 Wes Wehmiller Scholarship Award Winner Hayley Jane Batt and legendary drummer John “JR” Robinson
  • The WesFest All-Stars: featuring music by Mike Keneally, Jackie Daum, Joe Brooks, Kira Small and Colin Keenan

Tickets are available online. Those who cannot make the event (and those who can) are able to donate to the scholarship fund online as well. To order tickets and/or donate to the scholarship fund, visit the WesFest 7 site.
