Lorenzo Feliciati Releases “Frequent Flyer”

Lorenzo Feliciati: Frequent FlyerDescribed as “one of the best kept secrets on the European modern jazz scene,” Lorenzo Feliciati‘s influences cover a lot of ground, from jazz to prog-rock and funk. The bassist released his third solo album, Frequent Flyer.

Feliciati’s band Naked Truth, which includes King Crimson drummer Pat Mastelotto, inspired Feliciati to explore Crimson’s music, and even cover the prog band’s “Thela Hun Ginjeet” on the new album.

“Playing with Pat Mastelotto helped me to discover the magic in some of the most complicated and strange-sounding King Crimson tunes,” the bassist said. “‘Thela Hun Ginjeet’ was a song I always play at soundcheck, and during a music fair in Italy I did it with my good friends Roberto Gualdi on drums and Guido Block on vocals, and we were all enthusiastic about the way it turned out. So we decided to do it for my album because they are wonderful musicians, very good friends and we play together often. They fit perfectly in the Frequent Flyer format.”

The rest of his band for Frequent Flyer includes trumpeter Cuong Vu and keyboardist Roy Powell, while special appearances are made by saxophonist Bob Mintzer and DJ Skizo, among others.
