Ron Carter Trio: The Golden Striker

Today is bass legend Ron Carter’s birthday, and we’d be remiss if we didn’t celebrate with some of his incredible playing.

Here’s the bassist’s Golden Striker Trio, featuring pianist Mulgrew Miller and guitarist Russel Malone playing their namesake tune, originally performed by the Modern Jazz Quartet.

Happy Birthday Ron Carter!

  1. Is it just me or has Rons intonation been a bit questionable the last few years..

  5. It would be great if all double basses were exactly the same, but, they aren’t. Travel has made it nearly impossible for someone to use their bass all the time. It looks as if this bass might even be laminated but I’m not sure. But one of the most important things here is that there is no drummer and yet you know where every section and all the changes are in every section and solo – a great schooling from some well-seasoned musicians.
