Tom Tom Club to Release First New Material in 12 Years
New Wave band Tom Tom Club has announced Downtown Rockers, their first new release in 12 years. Available digitally on September 4th with a vinyl edition coming September 11th, the EP will pay homage to now defunct nightclub CBGB, where the musicians got their start.
“It was our incubator,” bassist/vocalist Tina Weymouth told Rolling Stone. “It was very intimidating to perform. I only had my amp for two months before our first gig [in 1975]. I was just starting.”
A side project of The Talking Heads, Tom Tom Club was formed in 1981 by the Weymouth and her husband Chris Frantz. The new release will be their first new material since 2000’s The Good, the Bad and the Funky.
