Hal Leonard Announces “At A Glance” Series for Bass

Hal Leonard's At A Glance Series for BassHal Leonard’s popular At A Glance series for guitarists is making its way to bassists with the release of several titles this year.

Each set in the series combines an interactive DVD and companion book.

The DVD lessons offer up on-screen music with tips and information about the subject matter and provides real world application through the use of popular tunes. Each release will be priced at $9.99.

The first two titles, Beginning Bass and Bass Fretboard Theory, are out now.

At A Glance: Beginning BassBeginning Bass kicks things off with music reading basics, right-hand technique and “first bass groove”.

Songs in this set include “Brass in Pocket”, “Crazy Train”, “Dancing in the Street”, “Eight Days a Week”, “I Fought the Law”, “Mr. Jones”, “Oye Como Va”, “Smooth”, “Thunderbird”, “What’s Going On”, “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin'” and others.

At A Glance: Fretboard TheoryBass Fretboard Theory builds upon the first release with more essential concepts, covering the fretboard layout, bass interval workouts, scale construction, scale shapes and expanding on the groove.

The songs in this set include “Another One Bites the Dust”, “Barracuda”, “Gimme Some Lovin'”, “I Heard It Through the Grapevine”, “Lady Madonna”, “Money”, “Sweet Emotion”, “Under Pressure”, “You Really Got Me” and more.

The three remaining titles in the series announced so far will be coming out later in the month, including Scales & Modes for Bass, Rock Bass and Funk and R&B Bass.

  1. Are these complete songs transcriptions? Or snippets (or simplified versions) just to show examples of the material in the book? $10 seems worth it for this many songs (if they’re complete) plus lessons with a DVD.
