Randy Brecker Band with Janek Gwizdala: Above and Below
Over the weekend, Kevin and I attended Gerald Veasley’s Bass Bootcamp. There were a lot of highlights, and one of them was having dinner with bassist Janek Gwizdala.
I was already a Janek fan before I met him. I found out that as great a bassist as he is, he’s an even greater human being.
So I was inspired to go back and check out a bunch of his videos. This one, with the Randy Brecker Band, is really terrific (including a great solo by Janek).
Janek sets it up:
This is something that never gets old for me, and something I’m proud to have been a part of in my career. Playing one of my favorite songs from the later brecker brothers catalogue, Above and Below, this is the Randy Brecker band from late 2012.
The video was shot live in Aruba at the Caribbean Sea Jazz Festival on October 6th, 2012.

Hope you don’t mind me plugging it! John Goldsby also on board here for the third time as double bass tutor. Our stellar faculty also includes Kenny Werner, John Riley and Jean Toussaint.
