In Memoriam: Chris Bailey

Chris Bailey

Chris Bailey, the bassist for The Angels, has passed away at the age of 62 after a battle with throat cancer.

The Angels guitarist John Brewster posted the news on the band’s Facebook page.

“It is a very sad day for us,” Brewster said. “We have lost a great friend in Chris Bailey and a great friend to a lot of people. He had been battling for the last nine months or so and it’s been a hard road for him.”

Bailey joined The Angels in 1976 after Doc Neeson switched from bass to vocals and the band went on to develop a massive following in Australia. He left the band in 1982, but returned years later. The Angels were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 1998.

Here’s a performance by the band in 1979:

Bailey’s long-time friend Sam Brewster took over the bass duties during Bailey’s illness.

Our thoughts are with Bailey’s family and friends. The band has a post on their Facebook page for fans to share their tributes and memories.
