Gig Opportunity: U.S. Air Force Airmen Of Note Announce Bass Vacancy

The United States Air Force Band has announced an immediate vacancy for the bass chair in their premier jazz ensemble, the Airmen of Note, as longtime bassist Paul Henry steps down from his tenure.

The position requires that bassists play both acoustic and electric bass in a big band setting in a variety of styles, including swing, bebop, latin, and funk/rock. Applicants must also meet the requirements to be eligible to enlist in the Air Force. The audition process begins by submitting a resume and recording of required excerpts by June 1st. Live auditions will then be held in Washington, D.C. for invited candidates.

The position requires a four year minimum enlistment, and the maximum age at time of enlistment is 34. The annual starting salary range is $54,389 and $61,841, and the position includes full military benefits and 30 days paid vacation.

Created in 1950, the Airmen of Note carries on the tradition of Glenn Miller’s Army Air Corps dance band and serves as one of the country’s last touring big bands.
