Esperanza Spalding: Precious, Live at Amoeba

My friend Dos was the first person to introduce me to the music of Esperanza Spalding, and this was the first tune that made me realize her genius.

Taken from her 2008 release, Esperanza, “Precious” is a gorgeous groove that is a perfect blend of jazz and R&B. The bass line is infectious – and fun to play – and her soaring vocals ooze with emotion.

Here’s a more intimate duo version of the song performed with drummer Otis Brown at Amoeba Hollywood in February 2009. Sit back and enjoy.

In his time with No Treble, Kevin has met hundreds of amazing bassists and interviewed icons like Jack Casady, Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, Marcus Miller, and more. He's a gigging bassist performing jazz in Northern Virginia and bluegrass with The Plate Scrapers up and down the East Coast. Kevin appreciates all genres of music, from R&B to metal and everything in between. Connect with Kevin on Facebook and check his performance schedule on his website.
