Nathan Navarro: Bass Effects Demonstration

Nathan Navarro is a total beast of a bassist who really knows how to make effects sound good. Here’s a demo he made to show some of what he can do.

Things start out pretty ambient and serene up until the 1:30 mark when all hell breaks loose. Check out those sweeps at 2:00!

For the brave, Nathan has the song available for download… with TAB.

In his time with No Treble, Kevin has met hundreds of amazing bassists and interviewed icons like Jack Casady, Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, Marcus Miller, and more. He's a gigging bassist performing jazz in Northern Virginia and bluegrass with The Plate Scrapers up and down the East Coast. Kevin appreciates all genres of music, from R&B to metal and everything in between. Connect with Kevin on Facebook and check his performance schedule on his website.

  1. Whats is on his right hand, seems like a sensor of sorts….. I need to know this!!!!!!!!

  2. Source Audio Hot Hand i think

  3. It would’ve been more helpful to know what effects were actually being used here if this was to be an effects demo.

    • Farrin

It’s actually all source audio gear, if you watch it on YouTube he has what times everything is used. But he uses the Dimension Reverb, Bass Envelope Filter Pro, Multiwave Bass distortion pro, OFD bass micro modeler, and the Orbital Modulator. The Hot Hand is for the wobbles with the BEF and MWBD

  4. What does he have on the thumb? can you give me some advices?

  5. total badassery. #thumbsup

  6. I’m usually really not in that kind of stuff with electric effects and things like that but God! you freakin’ own it! You master the art and you’re amazing with you’re bass!!

  8. ¡¡¡¡¡Enfermoooooo!!!!!

  9. He has a Hot Hand on the headstock too. Looks like the neck dives weren’t just for show.

  10. that just blew my mind. damn

  11. sweet use of new tech mixed with some solid bassing

  12. I enjoyed this very much. It was intense, and his innovation tonally was serious, ( but the tech toy lessened my enjoyment of it all)… I say do it all hands on. That’s a musician’s way (f..k all dat dumb s..t. Just a new device to help today’s generation, create more horrible music, without learning skills). This guy plays, and that is no denying, but you see where this is going. Music is terrible these days, and all thanks to tecno crap). Hot Hand or Cold Hand, you wouldn’t catch me using no BS like that when I can play it myself.

  13. What’s the first effect being used in the video?

  14. that’s hilarious!

  15. Great, now I have to google how to put a melted face back on.
