Bass of the Week: AV Basses AVB1

This week we check out the AVB1 from AV Basses, a versatile custom bass that comes in 4-, 5-, 6- or 7-string versions. Made in the Czech Republic by luthier Aleš Vychodil, the AVB1 comes with tons of options ranging from bolt-on or neck-thru construction to choice of woods to choice of pickups.

While the bass can be made in so many ways, the configuration from the AVB1 demo video really caught our eye. The four-string bolt-on bass has a beautiful dark wood motif with a cocobolo top and ebony fingerboard. The bass’s body is rounded out with a maple accent plate and a mahogany back while the neck is a 7-piece lamination of maple and wenge.

This AVB1 has a PJ pickup configuration and is fitted with a set of Nordstrand NPJ4’s. Hardware includes Hipshot Ultralite tuners and a Hipshot bridge.

  1. The link to the AV-website appears to be leading back to this article!

  2. A beautiful bass that’s not active, 4 string, sounds sweet AND looks awesome without trying to have a “cutting edge desing?” Gimme?
