Bass of the Week: Erizias Basses 6-String Singlecut

We first met luthier Pierre Erizias at the 2010 Summer NAMM Show in Nashville. I was so floored by his basses and his story that it led us to create our Custom Shop series of interviews with bass builders.

Erizias 6-String Singlecut Bass

Recently, he sent me a photo of one of his latest single cut basses, and I had to find out more. The 6-string bass is a set neck design that centers around a white ash neck. On top of that is a gorgeous 30-year old two-tone Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard with glow in the dark side dots. It has a smaller 33″ scale and 24 frets with a zero fret, TransNut, and a transparent ramp. The top is a bookmatched Buckeye Burl with a matching headstock cap. Its body is walnut with an alder center block, mahogany end cap, and blackwood accent veneer.

Erizias loaded the bass with Nordstrand dual coil pickups and a custom Erizias 3-band preamp with active and passive modes. Hardware includes custom ebony knobs, a matching walnut magnetic backplate, a Hipshot A-style bridge, locking Sperzel tuners, and Dunlop straplocks.

  1. Will someone explain to me what a ‘zero fret’ is?
