I hung out with Evan Marien for a while during the NAMM Show, and he told me I must check out bassist Panagiotis Andreou. I later got the chance to meet Panagiotis and asked him to send me some videos.
It was nearly impossible to pick one, but in the end, I decided on this one by Now Vs Now. The trio includes Panagiotis on bass, Jason Lindner on keyboards and Mark Guiliana on drums.

I think he may be using Indian rhythmic syllables in his scat stuff that tabla players learn (Indian musicians please feel free to shoot me down in flames). Either way, very hip.
Yup, he spent a few semesters teaching at the Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music in India, and picked up a lot of good Konnakol stuff from the Carnatic faculty there. The way Pana uses it with his bass playing and singing is absolutely brilliant!
Its Konnakol south indian actually and thank god the world will now all know of Pana’s godlike awesomeness!!!!!!!!
