Care Fund Set Up for New Orleans Bassist Left in Coma

Doug PotterThe music community is coming to the aid of jazz bassist Doug Potter, who was left in a coma after a brutal attack in New Orleans. Potter had just finished playing a gig at Cafe Beignet on Bourbon Street when two men assaulted him as he carried his bass back to his car. The incident was caught on video and police are searching for the assailants.

Potter underwent intensive brain surgery and is currently in a coma. According to a Facebook page set up to update friends and family, the bassist has been showing small signs of recovery but still has a long ways to go. A care fund has been set up for those wishing to help with the financial burden of the situation. Donations can be made to Doug Potter and his family on PayPal.

We’re wishing a speedy recovery to Doug.
