Hot Tuna Releases “Live at the Fillmore West, June 3, 1971”

Hot Tuna: Live at the Fillmore West, June 3, 1971It was the final Saturday night at the legendary San Francisco concert venue, Fillmore West.

Who played that night — July 3, 1971?

Well, Quicksilver Messenger Service closed the night, but Hot Tuna got the crowd going with its performance, captured on Live at the Fillmore West, June 3, 1971.

The group, anchored as always by bassist Jack Casady and guitarist Jorma Kaukonen were joined by violinist Papa John Creach and drummer Sammy Piazza that night to create some lasting blues-rock magic.

Portions of this performance have appeared previously on compilations like Historic Hot Tuna and Classic Hot Tuna Electric, but this two-disc set features nothing but the July 3 show.

Just watch as this Hot Tuna lineup performs “Uncle Sam Blues” in a clip from the out-of-print film, Fillmore: The Last Days:
