Chick Corea Trio Releases “Trilogy”, a 3-CD Set Featuring Christian McBride

Chick Corea: TrilogyThe live sound of keyboardist Chick Corea’s trio with bassist Christian McBride and drummer Brian Blade is what the group’s 3 CD set, Trilogy, is all about.

Recorded around the world as the trio toured, the live triple set features the group in performances recorded in Washington, D.C., and Oakland, CA; in Spain, Switzerland and Austria; and in Slovenia, Turkey and Japan.

The three make unique music, as Corea explains. “There’s a certain chemistry that happens, which is really difficult to describe – it’s simply that thing that happens when the three of us get together to play. I know I find myself trying things that I wouldn’t normally try.”

And capturing that experimental spirit, particularly in a live setting, is important. Corea says that live performance is really the most fundamental of musical experiences. “A live album like this is the next best thing to being there, a snapshot of special moments in musical time that we can share.”

One of the set’s many standout tracks is the trio’s take on Thelonious Monk’s “Blue Monk,” with McBride’s work being prominent. “Christian is a complete musician in all senses,” Corea says. “With total command of his instrument and a flowing ability to creatively improvise in any situation, he’s able to bring joyful surprises every time.”
