Mumpbeak: Oak

Ever since Mumpbeak released their debut album, it has stayed in my listening rotation. The group’s dark, progressive and experimental sound is one that gets into your subconscious and stays there.

Here’s a clip of the band’s core – featuring keyboardist Roy Powell, drummer Pat Mastelotto, and bassist Shanir Ezra Blumenkranz – performing the song “Oak.”

Blumenkranz locks in with King Crimson alumnus Mastelotto to build a brooding groove before kicking into an effects-laden solo at the 2:30 mark.

In his time with No Treble, Kevin has met hundreds of amazing bassists and interviewed icons like Jack Casady, Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, Marcus Miller, and more. He's a gigging bassist performing jazz in Northern Virginia and bluegrass with The Plate Scrapers up and down the East Coast. Kevin appreciates all genres of music, from R&B to metal and everything in between. Connect with Kevin on Facebook and check his performance schedule on his website.

Great groove man. Great bit @5:58 where the keyboard guy appears to run out of keys.Obviously in the moment.

Pretty dark; but pretty cool none the less. The drummer has a good style. I dig!
