Flying Lotus Album Heavy on The Thundercat

Flying Lotus: You're Dead!Flying Lotus’ fifth studio album, You’re Dead!, started out as a record just for him and bassist Thundercat (Suicidal Tendencies, Erykah Badu).

Flying Lotus (real name: Steven Ellison) tells Clash Music that the pair intended to make a double album, but decided to release the Flying Lotus songs first because they were completed earlier. His comments also mean Thundercat (real name: Stephen Bruner) is working on his own stuff for a future album.

As for their work together on You’re Dead! — you can hear what’s happening on the track below. The record — which also features Herbie Hancock, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Angel Deradoorian, Thundercat, and Niki Randa — is billed as “a shamanic pilgrimage into the psychedelic unknown of the infinite afterlife.”

You’re Dead! is available on CD, vinyl, and for digital download (iTunes and Amazon MP3).

Wow! I was very tempted to turn off the video as soon as I saw it was “just another black funeral scene”, but the music sucked me in. I was sucked in more when the young man opened his eyes, and then very intrigued by the choreographed dance scene. Well done.
