The Who Hits 50! Celebrates Five Decades of the Iconic Rock Band’s Output
As The Who celebrates the 50th anniversary of its recording career with a 2014-15 tour, it’s also releasing a greatest hits collection, The Who Hits 50!, as part of the celebration.
While the 2-CD set features work from late, great bassist John Entwistle (including “Boris the Spider” on which he also sings lead), it also features The Who’s first new single in eight years, called “Be Lucky.” The song features Pino Palladino – who stepped in on bass after Entwistle’s 2002 death – and drummer Zak Starkey (son of The Beatles’ Ringo Starr.) And of course, lead singer Roger Daltrey and primary songwriter/guitarist Pete Townshend always remain.
You can check out the new single (royalties for it go to Teen Cancer America, a charity founded by Daltrey and Townshend) here:
The Who’s tour begins Nov. 30 with dates in the U.K. and moves to North America in April 2015. You can find the whole list of tour dates on The Who’s website.
And the tour could be, as Roger Daltrey puts it, “the beginning of the long goodbye” for the band.
But, there’s always the music. The Who Hits 50! is available on CD and as digital download (iTunes and Amazon MP3).
