Derek Trucks Band: Voices Inside (Everything is Everything)/Fat Mama
Kevin sent me a list of videos he thought I might like to share while he’s enjoying his honeymoon this week. He guessed this one would be my favorite.
He was right.
This is the Derek Trucks Band, anchored by the great Todd Smallie on bass. The band plays “Voices Inside (Everything is Everything)” and “Fat Mama” in this performance, which is part of the band’s Songlines LIVE.
Of course, nearly every bassist is familiar with “Voices Inside…” thanks to Donny Hathaway’s 1972 release, Live with Willie Weeks taking one of the most epic bass solos ever. Check out Todd’s nod to Willie’s solo when he takes a spin.
As if that wasn’t enough, there’s also “Fat Mama”, from Herbie Hancock’s 1969 album, Fat Albert Rotunda.
Oh yeah.
Ohhh jeezzz soooo funkyyy!!! *^*”
Almost too funky!!
Just a masterful groove all away around .
Those eleven minutes flew by! That’s a sign of great music!
Killer bass playing aside….derek killed fat mama! Did i mention the killer bass playing?
Mr Smallie was definitely smiley! Loved it!
