Reader Spotlight: Devin Bohart

Devin BohartMeet Devin Bohart, a working bassist – and vocal coach – who often takes his Modulus Flea bass and hits the road. While he studied jazz at North Texas, Devin credits NOFX’s Heavy Petting Zoo for making him want to play bass.

Devin is No Treble’s reader in the spotlight for the week of February 16, 2015, and here’s his story…

Bio:

I’m a bass player living in southern California and currently working with Jimmy Dale. In addition to playing bass, I’m a vocal coach for some amazing young ladies. I’ve played all over the country and love my Modulus Flea bass!

Location:

La Mirada, CA USA

Day gig:

Vocal Coach/Bass Player

Years experience:

18 years

Bands & Gigs:

Currently touring with Jimmy Dale (son of legendary surf guitarist Dick Dale).

Gear:

  • Modulus Flea 4 2002 Bartollini soapbar Aguilar PreAmp
  • GK 1001RB
  • DBX Compressor
  • BBE Sonic Maximizer
  • Carvin 8×10 cab

Why I play the bass:

NOFX – Heavy Petting Zoo.

Odd I know… considering I was going to school for jazz.

My bass superpower/claim to fame

I pride myself on being in the pocket… I realized some time ago that all the flashy stuff usually only matters to other bassists.

My influences

The usual I suppose… Vic, Marcus Miller, Flea…

But I don’t think punk gets enough love!

Matt from face to face and no use for a name has great ideas and Mike from NOFX is amazing.

Oh and Prince… we can’t forget Prince.

That pic was taken while doing a demo for ampeg at NAMM. Trust me I wish modulus was still around so I could have done the demo on one :(
