Christian McBride Trio: Fried Pies

Here’s a clip that will get your foot tapping. Christian McBride and his trio of pianist Christian Sands and drummer Ulysses Owens, Jr. recently visited Seattle’s KPLU for a small set including their take on the classic Wes Montgomery tune “Fried Pies.”

The group is firing on all cylinders as they quickly get into a heavy groove. After laying down a killer walking bass under the piano solo, McBride takes a solo of his own that includes bluesy riffs and blistering licks.

Swinging and smoking. I don’t know of a better trio working today.

    Just a schwing’n!

  3. McBride is one of my all time favorite musicians, but Christian Sands’ piano solo stole the show in that clip.

Christian McBride sounds fantastic and his solo was perfect from pitch to clarity and beyond. And what a fantastic upright piano Christian Sands too!
