Prepare to up the irons: Iron Maiden has released their first new music in five years. “Speed of Light” is the first single from the band’s upcoming album, The Book of Souls, which is due out September 4th.
Of course, the legendary Steve Harris provides his snarling bass lines to the album in addition to writing contributions on seven of the tracks. “We approached this album in a different way to how we’ve recorded previously,” he stated on the Iron Maiden website. “A lot of the songs were actually written while we were there in the studio and we rehearsed and recorded them straight away while they were still fresh, and I think that immediacy really shows in the songs, they have almost a live feel to them, I think. I’m very proud of The Book Of Souls, we all are, and we can’t wait for our fans to hear it, and especially to take it out on the road next year!”
The official music video for “Speed of Light” features band mascot Eddie traveling through time and space in homage to four decades of video gaming history. He completes various video game styles that parallel Iron Maiden’s history with album art serving as each level’s focus.
The Book Of Souls will be Iron Maiden’s 16th studio album since their debut album in 1980.
