Ron Carter Releases Work with WDR Big Band

Ron Carter: My Personal SongbookJazz bassist Ron Carter is legendary. His work is on more than 2,500 recordings, including ones with Miles Davis and Gil Evans.

And now, the first recordings of his compositions with a big band have been released on My Personal Songbook, credited to Ron Carter and The WDR Big Band, recorded in early 2013 in Germany.

Carter describes the result of the collaboration: ”It honors a radio station to insist on this music and to make such a large band format happen. Being professional, flexible and having the brilliant musicality of these musicians also add to this project.”

The recording also features a DVD, with performances of seven songs.

Just check out the sound Carter and the big band make together on this performance of “Blues for D.P.”:
