Fernando Huergo Releases Seventh Album

Fernando Huergo: HashtagElectric bassist Fernando Huergo has released Hashtag, which combines his original work with his take on standards by Mongo Santamaria, Thelonious Monk, Wayne Shorter, and Billy Strayhorn.

Born in Argentina, Huergo has long lived in Massachusetts and is an associate professor at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. He recorded Hashtag, his seventh album, at Berklee, and the record is indicative of his musical/cultural heritage. “It’s kind of a combination of who I am,” he says. “I’m from Argentina, I love the music from there, is in my blood. I love Astor Piazzolla and I love folklore music, but I also love Duke, Monk, Mingus and Benny Golson and all the jazz greats. So I tried to combine those things and create something hopefully interesting.”
