Grateful Dead Set Gives Classic 1978 Show an Official Release
A show from one of the The Grateful Dead’s earliest stands at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre has finally received an official release as a three-CD set after circulating among fans for decades.
As always, Phil Lesh holds down the low end on the set, simply called Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Morrison, Colorado, 7/8/78. The show’s audio is pulled from the Betty Boards, as the recordings made by former band engineer Betty Cantor-Jackson are known.
While the show has been given a stand-alone release, it is also included in a larger set, called July 1978: The Complete Recordings, which features five complete shows on 12 discs. The other shows are July 1, 1978 at Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri; July 3, 1978 at St. Paul Civic Center Arena, St. Paul, Minnesota; July 5, 1978 at Omaha Civic Auditorium: Omaha, Nebraska, and July 7, 1978 at Red Rocks. The Complete Recordings is only available as part of a signed, numbered limited edition of 15,000.
Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Morrison, Colorado, 7/8/78 is available on CD and as a digital download (iTunes and Amazon MP3).
