Bass of the Week: Höfner Guitars Gold Label Paisley 500/2 Club Bass
Höfner’s Gold Label series gives the company a chance to make limited runs of special designs created by their master luthiers in Hagenau, Germany. This week we’re checking out a version of their 500/2 Club bass that’s finished in a retro, 60’s paisley top.
“Introduced in 1964 the Club bass has for many years only been available in Sunburst,” Höfner explains. “All that is changed by this stunning Gold Label special version. Built using the original specifications of a fully hollow body, set in neck and cantilevered fingerboard this bass delivers that unique Höfner bottom end tone so famous since the 1960s. This is a lightweight bass, perfectly balanced and is excellent for long playing sessions without shoulder or back strain.”
The bass is built with a flame maple body, three piece flame maple neck, and a rosewood fingerboard. As with the rest of the Club basses, it sports a short 30-inch scale. It’s fitted with a pair of Höfner Cavern 510B pickups in a close spacing that they say adds extra bottom end.
