Reader Spotlight: Rob Pizapio
Meet Rob Pizapio, a man who has had a life-long love for the low end. Rob can be found in and around northern New Jersey with his band, who literally light up the stage. Rob is this week’s No Treble reader in the spotlight. Here’s his story…
Bio:
I started playing bass at a young age and continued through my teens and into adult years taking years of private lessons. I had some success with my original 80’s hair band, Diligence, where I picked up the stage name RT.Slinger. I stop playing live in the late 80’s to settle down start a family. In 2003, I got the itch to play live again and have been a weekend warrior in my cover band since.
Location:
Belleville,NJ USA
Day gig:
Personal assistant to the President of a large manufacturing company
Years experience:
49 yrs
Bands & Gigs:
Yes, I am in a classic rock tribute called The PhoenixBand. We are a five-member band who plays mostly in Northern Jersey. We have a very different look than most cover bands – the instruments have LED lights on them. We perform over 30 shows annually.
Gear:
I currently have 13 bass guitars. All are workhorses that see gig time, nothing collects dust. I use both Fender and Peavey amps.
Why I play the bass:
My dad was a guitar player whose friend played bass. The first time I felt it in my chest, I was hooked.
My bass superpower/claim to fame:
I love to play bass guitar. Not a day goes by that I do not pick one of my many basses and play something. When I am on stage, I lose myself in it. Bass is part of my life.
My influences:
Geezer Butler, Gene Simmons and Steve Harris.
