Bass of the Week: The Painted Player Yellow Submarine Bass
The Painted Player Guitar Company makes some fantastic finishes for their instruments, but they really went all out on this bass tribute to the Beatles. Their “Yellow Submarine” bass is a heavily modded Fender Mexican Precision that was crafted to resemble the psychedelic boat.
“[The bass was created] in the UK using a stunning Fender Mexican Precision Bass as a base for the build,” the company shared. “The body is discarded to make way for a brand new hand-crafted, solid alder ‘submarine’ body that combines with the original Fender neck and equipment to provide the player with a dynamic and responsive playing experience with looks to die for.”
The control knobs and jack were relocated to the bottom of the boat, while the back of the neck and headstock follow the animation’s whimsical color palette. Its case ties the whole thing together with a hand painting of Old Fred and the Blue Meanie.
