Mike Lull Custom Guitars Introduces Short Scale P430 Bass

Mike Lull Custom Guitars P430 Standard Bass

Mike Lull introduced a new short-scale version of his P-style bass called the P430 at the Winter NAMM Show this year. The P430 will carry the same features of the full-size P4 – such as an alder, swamp ash, or mahogany body – but it will have a short 30-inch scale. That’s something Lull was not interested in doing until he tried it.

“We’re also half repair shop, and Mike repairs shorties. He usually doesn’t like them because they don’t sound very good or play very good,” says Paul Schuster of Lull Custom Guitars. “I said, ‘But you haven’t made one yet!’ So he did, and of course, he knocked it out of the park. It sounds and plays like a real bass; it doesn’t feel like a toy.”

The P430 is fitted with a graphite-reinforced maple neck topped with either a birdseye maple or Indian rosewood fingerboard. Lull offers a choice of pickups with either a P, PJ, T-bird, or Darkstar pickup configuration available. Several other customizable options are available as well.

The Mike Lull P430 will be available soon with a street price around $2,700.
