Shane Cooper: Bamako Love Song

West African music has a special place in my heart, so I got excited when I saw this video of Shane Cooper performing his solo double bass song, “Bamako Love Song”.

Cooper, who is based in South Africa, was inspired by the city of Bamako, which is the capital of Mali. He pulls from West African rhythms and melodic ideas to create the gorgeous piece all while keeping time with a foot shaker.

If you dig his music, check out the IndieGoGo campaign for the upcoming album from his new band, MABUTA.

In his time with No Treble, Kevin has met hundreds of amazing bassists and interviewed icons like Jack Casady, Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, Marcus Miller, and more. He's a gigging bassist performing jazz in Northern Virginia and bluegrass with The Plate Scrapers up and down the East Coast. Kevin appreciates all genres of music, from R&B to metal and everything in between. Connect with Kevin on Facebook and check his performance schedule on his website.
