Bass of the Week: Moscato Guitars Funk Bass

Luthier Jean-Luc Moscato designed his Funk Bass model with the groove in mind. Built around a pair of his single-coil pickups, the instrument is described as the best choice for slap lovers.
“[The] Funk Bass is a perfect combination of [a dual] single-coil pickups configuration and high range manufacturing‘s lovers,” his website states. “Find a typical sound of Funk Music and Jazz.”
The Funk Bass has a distinctly funky body shape with a deep cutaway for access all the way up to the top frets. It’s built with a body of Ibua burl, maple, and mahogany with a maple and mahogany neck that’s reinforced with carbon fiber. The 24-fret fingerboard comes in either ebony or bubinga, which Moscato says will ensure “a perfect sustain and precision.” Other features include a John East U-Retro Deluxe preamp, Hipshot Ultralite tuners, and a brass Hipshot bridge.
