In Memoriam: Richard Swift

Richard Swift

More sad news today: Richard Swift, who toured with The Black Keys as their bassist, has passed away. He was 41 years old.

Born in California to a musical family, Swift was a multi-instrumentalist and self-starter who began by experimenting with four-track cassette recorders. He launched a solo career in the early 2000s and quickly became a producer. He joined the Shins as their drummer from 2011 to 2016 and started as the touring bassist for the Black Keys in 2014.

Frontman Dan Auerbach shared the news on Instagram.

“Today the world lost one of the most talented musicians I know,” he wrote. “He’s now with his Mom and Sister. I will miss you my friend.”

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Richard Swift.
