Sharay Reed Releases “Be There: A Book of Bass”
Bassist Sharay Reed has self-published a new book called Be There: A Book of Bass. Available in PDF and audiobook formats, the book contains insight into the Chicago-based musician’s style and thoughts on music.
“It’s taken me 30 years to learn it and 3 years to write it, but it’s finished and it’s got Bass,” Reed shared on Instagram. “This book is both a philosophical and a personal breakdown of all things base. I thoroughly explain how and why I play like I do, complete with exercises and insight into the groove. If you are interested in understanding the role of the bass in both music and life, pick this up.”
Reed is a seasoned performer and a monster bassist. He’s played for Patti LaBelle, Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, R. Kelly, CeCe Winans, Boys II Men, Ramsey Lewis, Aretha Franklin, and Chaka Khan. Recently he’s been performing as part of Cory Henry and the Funk Apostles as well as the Larry King Orchestra.
