Darkglass Electronics Launches Two New Amps at 2019 Winter NAMM
Finland’s Darkglass Electronics took to the Winter NAMM Show to unveil two new products in their line of bass amplifiers: The Alpha-Omega 900 and the Microtubes 900 v2. While the latter upgrades an existing model, the Alpha-Omega 900 is a brand new amp that pairs elements of their Alpha-Omega distortion preamplifier with a 900-watt power section.
“While Darkglass’ signature Alpha and Omega drive engines add incredible girth and size to the overdriven signal, the studio-grade VCA compressor adds an extra layer of control, and the ultra-quiet 6-band graphic equalizer can help sculpt the tone from aggressive and overdriven to crystal clear clean, whatever your needs may be,” the company writes.
The amp also integrates MIDI programmability and impulse response cabinet simulation with up to three different storable virtual cabinets. Its back panel is full of connectivity with dual Speakon combo outputs, an effects loop, Pre-DI and post-DI balanced XLR outputs, a MIDI output, an aux-in, a headphone output with a volume knob, a USB port, and a footswitch jack. A button allows for switching between a 4 ohm and 2-ohm load.
The Microtubes 900 v2 updates Darkglass’s original amp with “enhanced durability, improved equalizer, studio-grade compression, impulse response cabinet emulation, and MIDI control.” Its preamp includes the company’s Microtubes engine, which can be turned on and off with a switch. Another switch selects between either their B3K overdrive or Vintage Microtubes overdrive voicings. It shares the same back panel as the Alpha-Omega 900.
The Darkglass Electronics Alpha-Omega 900 and Microtubes 900 v2 will be available soon with street prices of $1,099 each.
