George Clinton Announces Final Tour Dates

After spreading the funk for five decades, the legendary George Clinton has announced the details for his final tour. The “One Nation Under a Groove” Tour will be the singer’s last outing though his band, Parliament-Funkadelic, will continue to carry the torch.

“I would love to keep on doing this but I’ll be 78 in a few more months,” he told Rolling Stone. “Even though I feel like I’m just getting started, the reality is the group needs to go ahead and keep it going. We’ve got a new vibe in the band, and they’ve been carrying it for the last three years. I’ve been up there representing for people, but they’ve actually been turning the place out. And we’ve been selling out for the last five years, every night.”

The tour will feature many of the band’s long-standing members including guitarist Blackbird McKnight, trumpeter Bennie Cowan, saxophonist Greg Thomas, and bassist Lige Curry. Together they will kick things off in March at Mass MOCA in Massachusetts before heading to Hawaii for a stay at the Blue Note. From there they’ll span the continental United States and be joined by Galactic (with bassist Robert Mercurio), Fishbone (with Norwood Fisher), Dumpstaphunk (with Tony Hall and Nick Daniels), and Miss Velvet & The Blue Wolf (with James Jones). Needless to say, this will be a bass-heavy tour.
