Mastodon’s Troy Sanders to Join Thin Lizzy for Summer Festival Dates

Troy Sanders

Thin Lizzy is known for having incredible bassists. Formed by the legendary Phil Lynott, the band filled out the low end after his passing with players like Marco Mendoza, Guy Pratt, Randy Gregg, and Tom Hamilton. Now they’ve announced the latest to take up the banner will be Mastodon’s Troy Sanders, who will play on select dates this year.

“Thin Lizzy are very pleased to announce the bass player for the forthcoming run of European Festival appearances to commemorate 50 years since the formation of the original band and 40 years since the release of the seminal Black Rose album,” the band wrote on Facebook. “Troy Sanders from Heavy Rock legends Mastodon will be joining Guitarist Scott Gorham, Darren Wharton on Keyboards, Ricky Warwick on Lead Vocals, Damon Johnson on Guitar and Judas Priest’s Scott Travis on Drums.”

Sanders, who handles both bass and vocals in Mastodon, added that joining the group for the shows this summer is a big deal for him. “It’s no secret that Thin Lizzy has had a big influence on Mastodon’s music. Being asked to join them on stage is a big deal and true honor to me. I am really looking forward to it!”

Sanders and Thin Lizzy will be performing at the Steelhouse Festival (featuring an exclusive Black Rose set), Rewind North Festival, Leyendas Del Rock Festival, and Alcatraz Festival. We’re certainly looking forward to seeing rock out with the band!
