Bass of the Week: Sivcak Guitars NDHS 5 062916

Sivcak Guitars NDHS 5 062916 Bass

Slovakia’s Sivcak Guitars has three lines of bass guitars, but the NDHS was their first model. Each bass is handmade in their workshop and as such have continually improved over the years.

“Elegant shape and unique design have been favored with a wide range of musicians of various genres from all over the world,” the company writes. “Each instrument of our production is treated in detail and shaped to adapt to a players body. Bass guitar body curves enable comfortable access of the highest positions of the 22-fret fingerboard. Compared to the body thickness, the neck joint is thinner and makes the transition between the body and the neck more subtle.”

This particular NDHS is a five-string built with a U.S. swamp ash body that’s topped with quilted maple and finished in a cool red burst. Its neck is Canadian hard maple completed with a birdseye maple fretboard, which is adorned with abalone inlays. Its electronics include a pair of Nordstrand Fatstacks matched to an Aguilar OBP-3 preamp. Finally, a Hipshot B-style bridge and Gotoh 720 Lite tuners round the bass out.
